Urban Restoration

Portland, Oregon

"Mark Urban is the only person that we would trust with our home renovation projects, large or small. For 17 years, Mark has headed renovations for us from creating a music room to a major kitchen remodel. His fastidiousness and attention to every detail has resulted in projects being done with superb craftsmanship, on time and under budget. We couldn't recommend Mark more highly."

"Mark Urban first started working with us 15 years ago. Now three houses and a dozen projects later, he continues to give us the same great practical advice and superb craftsmanship on work ranging from small service jobs to a major kitchen remodel. We especially appreciate Mark's ability to regularly communicate with us throughout every project, big or small."

"We have worked with Mark on two projects and look forward to working with Mark again. Working with Mark will make a significant positive difference to the design, the craftsmanship, and the overall experience of your project. He approaches the work on your home like he would his own. He is thoughtful with his estimates and has always come in on time and under budget. He listens carefully to your needs and helps you navigate through the complex process of completing your special project. He is a pleasure to work with. We enthusiastically recommend Mark for projects that you care about."

"We've worked with Mark over many years during which he has restored, remodeled and replaced our kitchen, our bathrooms and the entire tile roof of our historic home.

Mark is a superb craftsman with excellent vision for the scope of each project. He is easy to talk to and always takes time to discuss what’s most important to us.

He took our old, tired worn-out kitchen and made it new again while keeping its warm, cozy and comfortable character.

We love Mark's work and continue to call him back, even for little jobs."

"Urban Restoration transformed our house from an aluminum clad eyesore into a neighborhood gem. We continued to collaborate with Mark on the restoration of our home over the past ten years in large part due to his thoroughness and professionalism. No detail was too minor to overlook. If you're looking for high quality workmanship to restore the historic character of your home, Mark Urban can't be beat.

Mark and I worked closely together through the entire process from collaborating on design concepts and details, through demolition to reuse and recycle construction materials, to construction stages. Mark was very open to my participation in construction processes to help maximize the extent of what we could accomplish. He was a great listener and responsive to my conceptual drawings helping propose numerous alternatives when confronted with design challenges. He was incredibly attentive to construction details in an attempt to ensure the highest quality craftsmanship. To top it all off he was consistently thorough in cleaning up after himself every workday."

If you want an addition, especially if you want it to look like it was originally part of your house, Mark is the guy to do it! Mark did a massive remodel for a 1904 Colonial Victorian in Lair Hill and has since done a much needed conversion of an attached garage to our 1924 Tudor home in Eastmoreland that visitors can not believe was once a garage. Especially if you have a home with any sort of historic integrity, you want Mark to come over and do a walk through. He we work with you to come up with a 5 year plan prioritizing what needs to be done to save your house from rotting away. Expect quality and integrity. But do know that you will be given honest options to have work done within various budgets. Mark will also bring in other contractors that he has vetted. But if you want schlocky work, just hire someone off Craig's List.

Additionally, Mark is a family friendly contractor who is good around children, doesn't smoke or blare the radio. This is important when you wake up to a contractor for a couple of months or more!
